If you've ever had a complete stranger fall asleep next to you on the bus while using your shoulder as a pillow the STM has some good news.
On Wednesday the City of Montreal approved a plan that will allow the Société de transport de Montréal to borrow up to $1.4 billion to purchase close to 1,000 new buses by 2024.
More than 900 of the new additions will be regular-sized hybrid buses, replacing the current diesel ones. Each hybrid vehicle will have air conditioning and two wheelchair spaces.
The purchase plan will also include 34 regular-sized and four smaller all-electric buses.
The STM will retire about 500 diesel buses between now and 2020, replacing them with the new hybrid vehicles. From the other 465 buses will be added to the fleet by the end of 2024.
