One more CJAD listener is coming forward with issues surrounding garbage collection in the south shore town of Chateauguay.
Last month, Chateauguay residents were told garbage would have to be placed in new, curbside bins, which would be hooked up to the garbage truck for emptying once it makes its weekly rounds.
One listener contacted CJAD through Your Story last week to report that the town sometimes skips garbage collection altogether — after two weeks with no garbage collection, she then dumped her bin on the lawn of city hall.
Now, another listener, a retired widow, says someone has swiped her bin, and that she's now on the hook to have it replaced.
The listener, Joyce, told CJAD she paid nearly $100 for her bin, but two days after she purchased it, it vanished.
"Somebody stole it during the night," she says. "How low can a person be to steal a garbage bin?"
Later, when she brought her complaint to the city, she was told she would have to do to the MRC Roussilon, and not the town of Chateauguay, to have her complaint heard.
"And their solution is 'smile'! And ask your next-door neighbor if you could dump your garbage in their bin," she says.
Last week, officials suggested the new garbage system, which has been in operation for a few weeks, would take some getting used to.
