Quebec has seen a big jump in the number of doctors receiving psychological help through a special aid program for the profession.
La Presse reports that in the past year, 701 physicians sought counselling or were met in group sessions, a 40% increase over the previous year.
When the doctors who sought help the previous year are factored in, a total of 1,581 physicians are undergoing counselling at the moment.
Many of those seeking help in the past year cited the pressures of the job as the reason.
There were also group interventions with colleagues after half a dozen doctors took their own lives.
