Montreal made history in more than a few ways tonight.
The city elected its first female Mayor and denied a first-term Mayor a second stint in office for the first time in sixty years (the last time it happened was in 1957).
However, this election also broke a historic streak in another way: the past few elections have seen steady increases in voter turnout, but last night's election saw a turnout of around 41.5%, down nearly two points from the official turnout of 43.32% in the 2013 municipal election.
Turnout ranged from just 35.21% in Montreal North to 57.89% in Outremont. In 2013, turnout was also the highest city-wide in Outremont; four years ago, it topped 60%.
