In the seemingly neverending debate over the controversial Bonjour/Hi National Assembly motion, it was not uncommon for provincial politicians to mention that Montreal's taxicabs only say "Bonjour" on their side. Even Mayor Valérie Plante, who has not said whether she officially supports or opposes the motion, which passed 111-0 in the National Assembly before it rose for the winter break, made a passing reference to the unilingual design of this city's taxis when asked about the popular greeting in Montreal stores.
Uber, on the other hand, appears to be following a different route. This morning, photos first obtained by TVA News have made the rounds of a minivan with "Bonjour-Hi" written on its side in large print, reminiscent of the official design used on Montreal's taxis. The Journal de Montreal confirmed this afternoon that the vehicle has stickers identifying it as an Uber vehicle.
Uber nearly left the province of Quebec last month over a dispute on driver training. A spokesperson for Uber Quebec reportedly told TVA News that the company "does not endorse" what he called an "isolated initiative."
