For residents of Saint-Lambert the dream of enjoying a peaceful summer is there, but no promises have been made.
The Mayor of the South Shore city Pierre Brodeur and Montreal mayor Valerie Plante sat down with the provincial Environment Minister to talk about the noise coming from concerts at Parc Jean-Drapeau.
Saint-Lambert has gone as far as taking the City of Montreal and concert promoter evenko to court in order to try and get some peace and quiet, but so far has been unsuccessful.
The problem could be made even worse with a future open-air amphitheatre at Parc Jean-Drapeau. Residents are concerned because in its current configuration speakers would point directly at Saint-Lambert.
Former mayor Denis Coderre refused to modify the plans for the build, but new mayor Valerie Plante said she is willing to listen.
Monday's hour long meeting ended with the two cities agreeing to work together to form a committee that will look at short and long term solutions to reduce the noise that has been known to rattle windows and cause sleepless nights.
While there is light at the end of the noisy tunnel for Saint-Lambert residents, the problem will only get worse before it gets better.
With work taking place at Parc Jean-Drapeau summer concerts have been moved to the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve on Île Notre-Dame, bringing the speakers turned up to 11 even closer.
