The city is spending big on the track for the upcoming Formula E race
A new breakdown of the city's expenses on the electric car race from La Presse shows that $21 million out of $24 million is for things like roadwork to get the track up to scratch (around $9 million, although that's partly spread over the three years that the city will host the race).
The second biggest expense is about $7.5 million on concrete barriers to go around the track.
Some businesses are complaining of slowdowns due to the track work, and there will be major road closures and traffic disruptions.
The city is also removing several Bixi stations.
But there's little set aside for Montrealers who are set to be disrupted by it.
A handful of Ontario Street bars and restaurants will about $2,000 each from the city after being ordered to remove their terrasses to accommodate the race.
There's also around $244,000 spent on parking, some of which is for Ville Marie residents whose streets are being cleared.
Beyond these costs, the city has an extra 10 million in credit that it won't rule out drawing upon in the future.
Montreal is bound to host the Formula E race for at least three years, and could add another three years on top of that.
