Quebec is putting a billion new dollars toward fixing Montreal's road network.
Transport minister André Fortin and Martin Coiteux, the minister responsible for the Montreal area, were on hand Wednesday for a news conference to make the announcement.
The money will pay not just for pothole repair, but also for rebuilding the foundations of several roadways, including a segment of Highway 40 between the Ile-aux-Tourtes bridge and St. Charles Blvd.
It will also go toward building new roadways, including the ongoing Turcot rebuilding, the rebuilding of Highway 13 over Highway 40, and the rebuilding of the overpasses at Galeries-d'Anjou Blvd.
The money will also serve to replace highway signs and some surveillance cameras, and upgrade some of the street lighting.
A total of 63 projects will get money. The Transport ministry says more than 7,700 new job will be created as a result.
