It’s been a difficult night for Montreal Police. One of Police Chief Philippe Pichet’s most trusted officers faces allegations of manufacturing evidence, fraud and other claims yet-to-be-specified.
Last night, the Deputy Chief of the Sûreté du Québec contacted Pichet to advise him of their impending operation. The SQ then raided a number of Montreal Police offices, including SPVM headquarters.
“I’m not allowed to give his name right now,” said Pichet. “I can tell you they searched in two different floors. The third floor, which is Human Resources and also the seventh floor, which is Operational Planning Division.”
As for next steps, Pichet met with his senior officers this morning starting around 3am and said he’ll have to make a decision about what do next. It’s uncertain how soon his decision will come.
“I know for citizens seeing that our headquarters is being searched that brings a lot of questions. I just want to reassure them that we’ll still providing the good services they need.”
Pichet is also urging people not to jump to judgement, as this is an investigation.
“We will cooperate with l’équipe mixte from the Sûreté du Québec and they will get all the information and then we’ll see after what will happen,” promised Pichet.
