The union representing Longueuil police officers has panned the appointment of a Deputy Director of the Montreal Police department as head of the force.
Longueuil city council approved the nomination of 48 year old Fady Dagher last night.
Dagher is a veteran police officer who was responsible for operational planning in Montreal.
He also served as Commander of Station 30 in Saint-Michel. and was a advocate of the establishment of the Center for the Prevention of Radicalization.
Thepresident of the police union, Danny Lopez, tells the Journal de Montreal that he is disappointed that the city failed to promote from within it's own department.
Dagher is the third Montreal police officer chosen to head the Longueuil force since 2006.
His appointment takes effect February 6.
