E-commerce giant Amazon has whittled down its list of possible homes for its second North American headquarters down to 20 — and Montreal isn't on the list.
Toronto is the only Canadian city to make the company's shortlist.
Last year, the Seattle-based company announced it would set aside $5 billion for a new home base, and create about 50,000 high-paying jobs.
238 metropolitan areas in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico — including Montreal — submitted bids to the company. Here's the shortlist:
• Atlanta
• Austin, Tex.
• Boston
• Chicago
• Columbus, Ohio
• Dallas
• Denver
• Indianapolis
• Los Angeles
• Miami
• Montgomery County, Md.
• Nashville
• Newark
• New York
• Northern Virginia
• Philadelphia
• Pittsburgh
• Raleigh, N.C.
• Toronto
• Washington, D.C.
An Amazon spokesperson says the process taught the company about several new communities across North America that it will consider as locations for future infrastructure investment and job creation.
The company is expected to make a final decision sometime later this year.
