Tuesday night's MLS playoff game between the Montreal Impact and archrivals Toronto FC will go ahead, despite fears it might not go ahead because of the snow, and the inability of the Olympic Stadium's much-maligned roof to deal with snow accumulation.
The relative weakness of the roof means the stadium must remain closed if there's more than three centimetres of snow on it — in order to prevent a repeat of the infamous roof collapse just before a car show was to take place at the stadium in 1999.
But a representative with the Olympic Installations Board says the heating system designed to met the snow on the roof was working as it should.
Late Monday afternoon, the Impact were cleared to hold a workout before their game tomorrow night.
Close to 60,000 people bought tickets for the game, which is the first leg of the two-game Eastern Conference final. The second leg takes place in Toronto on Nov. 30, with the series winner advancing to the MLS Cup game on Dec. 10.
