The Montreal Gazette has published an apology for what it describes as "sexist, disparaging tweets" about Shania Twain which were posted to Twitter by sportswriter Herb Zurkowsky Sunday night.
Twain was the star of the halftime show at the Grey Cup in Ottawa.
Under a storm of protests on-line Zurkowsky deleted the tweets and posted two apologies.
In a statement this morning the newspaper offers an apology to Twain and its readers and says it will also address "the incident with Zurkowsky internally".
Once again, I apologize unreservedly for two highly insensitive tweets from last night. They never should have been posted.

I apologize for my insensitive tweet last night. I’m sorry for the numerous people I offended. I really meant no harm and must learn to keep my mouth shut. I hope people can forgive me. It won’t happen again!
