You wouldn't think there would be that much confusion over the difference between a flower pot and marijuana, but that is the new world we live in since the legalization of recreational cannabis.
Pia Teichmann owns The Flower Pot, a flower shop on Notre-Dame St. Since October 17 her store has been seeing an increase in a new type of customer.
"People started to call and come in or ask for pot and oil and this and that," Teichmann told CTVNews. "Because I'm not a marijuana person, I had no idea initially what this was all about."
The 73-year-old and her staff were just as confused as the many callers and walk-in customers, but eventually figured out that search engine algorithms are likely showing her store as a suggestion when someone searches online for a Montreal 'pot' shop.
Most of the confusion ends in a laugh, and a request for directions to the nearest government run cannabis store (which Teichmann does not know). One of the mistaken Montrealers even said he'd return to buy some flowers.
Teichmann and her husband bought The Flower Pot in 1976, and the recent high demand gave her glimpse of why SDQC shops have struggled to keep up with demand.
"It's probably much more profitable to sell pot than it is working with flowers," she said.
