The cost of designing and promoting the City of Montreal's new flag came in at $126,000 according to the Canadian Taxpayers Federation.
The Quebec Director, Carl Vallée, told the Journal de Montreal more than half of the money or $70,000 went to a promotional video, information pamphlets and social media advertising.
The flag was altered and unveiled in September and now includes a white pine symbol to illustrate representation of Indigenous peoples.
Vallée is critical of the city for outsourcing the promotional work rather than having it done by municipal workers employed by the communications department.
