The city of Montreal has announced some improvements to the free Wi-Fi system first launched in 2015.
Among them, the service will expand to cover a lot more of the downtown. At the moment, coverage includes Old Montreal and the area around the Palais des Congrès. The network will now extend to the downtown area, Quartier des Spectacles, the Innovation Quarter (in Griffintown) and at Parc Jeanne-Mance.
There will be a total of 825 Wi-Fi hotspots in the city, making the service one of the most expansive in the world.
Harout Chitilian, the executive committee member responsible for the smart city, says improvements to reach and quality will be coming in the next few months — if they haven't been put in place already.
"With MTLWiFi, Montrealers now enjoy a single, simplified connection mode and the same quality of service in all access points," said Chitilian in a news release.
