The city launched its seventh major snow removal operation Thursday evening after about 20 centimetres of snow fell earlier this week bringing the total snowfall this winter to 235 centimetres.
The average winter snowfall in Montreal is 190 centimetres and five snow clearing operations are the norm.
As a result of this latest storm the city will have spent $180 million to clear and salt the streets and sidewalks this winter after having budgeted $160 million.
So much snow fell this winter that the city was forced to open two emergency dump sites.
A spokesman says crews have hauled away 16 million cubic metres of snow, while in an average winter it would be about 12 million cubic metres.
The current snow clearing operation should last five days.
