Public consultations are underway as the City looks to hear your opinion on how it should deal with dangerous dogs.
Mayor Valerie Plante did away with the previous bylaw, the controversial pitbull ban and muzzle regulations passed by the previous administration.
"We don't want to make it about pit bulls," city councillor Craig Sauve, the spokesperson for animal issues told CTV Montreal. "(We want) a larger approach…. We know that Labradors bite, St. Bernards, we know that any type of dogs bite, really. How do we make better owners in Montreal?"
After the first day of consultations residents have recommended mandatory obedience classes, sterilization and microchipping for owners of dangerous dogs.
"We need proper dissuasive elements – fines and incentives – for people who go and want to get their dogs registered. Same for cats as well" Sauve said.
If you have an opinion and would like to share it you can do so online by visiting makingmtl.ca/animals before March 4.
Sauve said more than 7,000 people have already filled out the survey.
If you wish to have your voice heard in person you can sign up for one of the remaining meetings:
