Montrealers who enjoy the shopping section of Monkland Ave. will have to make their way through a construction zone starting today.
Work to fix the popular street will last until the end of August and will be done in two parts.
First, from July 3, to July 31, crews will repave the road from Decarie Blvd. to Marcil Ave.
Traffic will be closed in both directions, buses will be detoured and parking will be restricted. The borough said the bulk of the work will take place weekdays between 9:00 A.M. and 3:30 P.M.
Once the first half of the roadwork is complete, crews will move to the second stretch, from Harvard Ave. to Grand Blvd. until the end of August. The same parameters for the first round of work will apply here as well.
The work is bittersweet for merchants in the area, who say July is the busiest time of the year for them. With fewer cars passing by, business is expected to drop. However they add Monkland Ave. is in bad shape, so the work is needed to fill in the many potholes.
