Mayor Denis Coderre is confirming that Montreal officials reached out to Major League Baseball to offer to host regular season games for the Houston Astros, which had to play out of Tampa Bay this week because of the devastating flooding caused by Hurricane Harvey.
Coderre says they were ultimately turned down.
"They were thankful, that's it," he told reporters,"but it's a non issue, just saying Montreal as usual can be a help in the time of grievance, that we can be part of the solution, not only for the sake of baseball but for the sake of the people of Houston."
Coderre was also quick to point out the MLB has said previously Montreal is ready and can handle regular season matchups.
The city has not hosted a regular-season matchup since the Montreal Expos moved to Washington in 2004, but several pre-season Toronto Blue Jays games have been played out of Montreal in recent years.
