The RTM could begin work on a commuter-rail station in Mirabel in less than a year, with the details of the project set to be finalized this coming spring, according to the Journal de Montreal.
The long-promised project will be made possible by a $1.3 million investment from the government. It's expected to be announced later on this morning, part of a nearly $25.7 million investment from both the provincial and federal governments into the Autorité régionale de transport métropolitain (RTM).
If all goes to plan, construction will supposedly get underway either at the end of 2018 or in very early 2019.
It will, however, be sure to be met with resistance from nearby farmers, who have already expressed discontent with the potential for a new rail station to fuel urban sprawl and real-estate speculation.
