The former treasurer of the Central-Quebec Hockey Association has been sentenced to two years of community service and has been ordered to re-pay the $550,000 he stole over a six year period ending in 2012.
63 year old Gilles Boivin admitted to taking the money in cash and by writing himself cheques from the association's account.
Boivin says he wrote about 60 cheques to withdraw $490,000 and stole another $60,0000 in cash.
The money came from the registration fees that parents were paying for their children to play.
The repayment plan is part of a plea bargain that was approved by the judge Monday.
Boivin, who admitted his motivation was greed, also sent a letter to the Central-Quebec Hockey Association apologizing for his actions.
