The City of Montreal is investing $46.1 million to revitalize its sports facilities around the city, mayor Denis Coderre announced Thursday.
Money will be used to rejuvinate soccer fields, public baseball diamonds, tennis courts and other facilities.
There are also funds specifically for building more refrigerated skating rinks, Coderre said.
The city has invested at least $7 million in recent months in machine-chilled rinks, after noting how global warming was cutting into seasonal operations.
Last winter, outdoor skating at some non-refrigerated rinks was impossible until late January.
