Road work is reducing the Mercier Bridge to one lane in both directions until next weekend.
Transport Quebec says the lane closures are needed and will last until 12:00 a.m. on Saturday.
Motorists are advised to find alternate routes and tune into traffic reports to navigate the roads with one of the major spans into and off of the island severely restricted.
The single lanes in each direction are also being reduced to widths of three meters.
