Next Saturday, the Alouettes will hold try-outs for this year's cheerleading squad and for the first time, men are being invited to apply to become dancers.
The cheerleading team's director, Annie Larouche, is hoping some qualified men apply, so the Als become the first team in the Canadian Football League to feature male dancers.
"I would love to be the pioneer, I would love that," she says.
The Alouettes added men to the stunter squad on its cheerleading team last year.
Now, Larouche is looking for male dancers at least 18 years old with an outgoing personality, a well-groomed appearance, and some dance experience.
The requirements? "Rhythm, technique, and talent in general," she says.
The auditions next Saturday, February 23 will be at College Saint Jean Vianney on Gouin Boulevard East. Stunters will try out in the morning, dancers in the afternoon.
Applicants fill out a form online, then bring a current photo, some ID and a $20 application fee.
