Montreal mayor Valerie Plante is out with a shopping list of demands for the federal party leaders contesting this election.
She told a news conference at City Hall on Monday that it's fairly clear what her main priority was.
"I think I've been very loud about how important it is to talk about [the] environment," Plante says. "I've said it during the provincial campaign, I'm doing it right now. And all I can say to all the parties out there is that I got elected on a very strong platform connected to the environment, housing and mobility. So, all the leaders should be aware of that, because this is how people decided to vote for me for this very strong vision for the future of Montreal."
Among other things, she's looking for the leaders to address things like green initiatives, such as bans on plastics, investing in green energy — and more money for better public transport.
"Because it connects with also the environment and housing," she says. "The more mobility options we have, the more I can ask Montrealers to leave their cars at home and use public transit."
She also referred to Montreal as the city in the country with the fastest growing economy, and she says more investment is also needed in emerging industries such as artificial intelligence.
"Montreal is the city where we've had the biggest growth, based on economics," she says. "So, we are important, people are looking at us."
