It appears to be a done deal now — there will be a Grand Prix in Montreal in 2017.
Mayor Denis Coderre tweeted Tuesday morning that a tentative deal has been struck between the race's promoters, Groupe Octane, and Formula One World Championship Limited.
The 2017 race had been in trouble, because the paddock facilities at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve have not yet been refurbished. That was one of the terms of the 10-year deal which would ensure the race remains in Montreal until 2024.
Tickets for the 2017 race are due to go on sale on Thursday.
2017 will mark the 50th anniversary of the first Canadian Grand Prix, and the race itself is expected to have some local content as well — Montreal teenager Lance Stroll is due to join the F1 circuit for the upcoming season, driving for Williams.
