Longtime Snowdon city councillor Marvin Rotrand has been named the new interim leader of the Coalition Montréal party.
He replaces Benoit Dorais, the South West borough mayor who announced earlier this week that he's quitting the party to sit on council as an independent.
Rotrand has represented the Snowdon district since 1982.
Coalition Montréal was formed for the late Marcel Côté's run for mayor in 2013. He finished a distant fourth in the race.
Rotrand says he wants to raise the party's profile, a promote some of the party's goals — including promoting access to public transit.
“We have been too discreet as a party over the past two years,” he said in a statement. “I want members to decide how best to achieve our key objectives. This includes ensure that the 31 per cent of Montrealers who are visible minorities are not invisible when it comes to their representation in public service and municipal life.”
