An estimated 1,000 people took part in Quebec Solidaire's march Saturday afternoon calling for Quebec's Health minister to step down.
People chanted "Dehors Barrette!".
The march was led by Quebec Solidaire's spokesperson, MNA Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois, and Mercier MNA Amir Khadir, who denounced Barrette's handling of the health care system, especially nurses' working conditions.
One Montreal nurse, Nick Iartsev, said he was marching in solidarity with his colleagues, who are often overworked.
"No one should be coming to work not knowing if they're going to work 8 or 16 hours," Iartsev said. "I don't know where else you encounter these working conditions other than the health care system in Quebec," he said.
Iartsev said he hopes the march will bring about some change.
"Hopefully there's going to be some better changes for the health care system because ultimately, it's not only about us, it's about the patients," he said.
Meanwhile, the march comes days after Barette announced the Liberal government will launch a pilot project in an attempt to improve nurses' working conditions.
