Vermont firefighters and motorists had to deal with a sticky situation on Monday afternoon — a maple syrup spill on a major highway.
A barrel of maple syrup apparently fell off a truck on Monday afternoon, at the beginning of the rush hour, on the northbound portion of Interstate 91 near Exit 27. That's just outside the town of Newport, Vt., just a few miles from the Quebec border.
Just after 4 p.m. on Monday, Vermont State Police tweeted about the closure, and said that local firefighters were on scene cleaning up the mess.
The road was reopened a few hours later, but motorists were urged to follow the "slow down, move over" rule while the firefighters did their work.
