The man convicted in the 1989 hit-and-run death of Olympic swimmer Victor Davis has pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the death of a man at a LaSalle bar three years ago.
Glenn Crossley, wearing a blazer, tie and jeans, was calm as he answered the questions of the judge to make sure he knew what he was doing in pleading guilty to causing the death of 70-year-old Albert Arsenault.
According to a joint statement of facts, Crossley and Arsenault did not know each other prior to September 17, 2016 when they crossed paths at the Station 77 bar.
Video surveillance shows "a conflict erupted" between Crossley and Arsenault, who was described as "severely intoxicated" that night.
Arsenault was approaching people at the bar and giving them dirty looks, including Crossley.
During the dispute, Arsenault gave Crossley the finger, "almost touching his face."
That's when Crossley grabbed Arsenault by the shirt collar and pushed him aside,
That made Arsenault fall down the stairs - he hit his head and died later in hospital.
Crossley had left the scene, unaware of the severity of Arsenault's injuries.
Crossley turned himself in to police a few months later following a warrant for his arrest.
When asked for comment, Crossley told reporters, "Not today."
The crown said it would ask for a three year sentence at next month's sentencing hearing.
Crossley was given a 10-month sentence in 1992 for causing the death of Olympic medallist Victor Davis in Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue.
Davis, 24, was run down by Crossley who was behind the wheel in 1989, and he died two days later.
