A 38-year-old man turned himself into police after a Muslim cultural centre in Sept-Iles was vandalized earlier this week.
The man, a resident of Sept-Iles, was released on a promised to appear in court at a later date on charges of break-and-enter and mischief.
A member of the community in Sept-Iles, Nizar Aouini, took photos of the damage and posted them to Facebook. The vandals turned over flower pots, punched holes in the walls and damaged a bookshelf and a computer screen.
Provincial police say the incident doesn't appear to be a hate crime — suggesting the man who turned himself in told police he had been drinking in a bar next door before the attack, and then left drunk an blacked out.
It's the second time the centre, which was recently built, has been targeted by vandals.
Aouini says he's touched by the outpouring of support he's been getting since the story broke.
