A Montreal-area man pining for the companionship of man's best friend is going after his ex to get access to Ashley and Scout, the former couple's two dogs.
James Clark and Tarah Joannou had lived together for just over a year when they separated last October. Their Australian shepherds stayed with Joannou, must to the distress of Clark, who says both partners financed the purchase of the dogs.
In a claim filed in court in Laval, he says he misses the dogs so much, he is suffering stress, anguish and insomnia.
He says he and his ex initially agreed to each take one of the animals but accuses her of backing out of the arrangement and cutting off all contact with him.
Clark is claiming custody of the dogs, plus $6,000 in compensation for emotional distress and inconvenience.
For her part, Joannou tells the Journal de Montreal she has no intention of handing over Ashley and Scout, and doesn't understand why the legal system allows her to be sued for what she insists she owns.
