A man is in hospital with serious injuries after he was shot during an exchange of gunfire with Montreal police Saturday morning.
Police were called to a bar to break up a fight between two individuals at around 3:00. Officers noticed one of the men had a gun, who fled on foot when police tried to apprehend him. The pursuit took officers near the corner of Rene-Levesque and Rue de Bullion.
The suspect opened fire on the officers, who fired back and shot him at least once. He was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
Quebec's Bureau des enquêtes indépendantes has taken over the investigation. Rene-Levesque is closed in both directions near Rue de Bullion as part of a large police perimeter.
