A fatal accident Highway 132 Saturday in Saint-Stanislas-de-Kostka in Monteregie, about 70 km southwest of Montreal, turned even more tragic after the family of the victim came forward.
Pascal Lortie, 41, was killed when his car crossed the center line, hitting another vehicle head on.
Provincial police said Lortie's speed and impromptu lane-change were to blame for the crash.
Lortie's brother, Sylvain, told the Journal de Montreal his brother would not normally drive that way, but a call from his 20-year-old daughter moments earlier sent into a tailspin.
Her brothers, 18 and 22-years-old, had just found their mother's body in the basement of their Salaberry-de-Valleyfield home.
Sylvain said his brother was just trying to get home and be with his kids, and likely wasn't thinking of anything else.
Pascal was killed on impact.
The driver of the vehicle he hit, a woman, was rushed to hospital with serious injuries and is expected to recover.
A third vehicle was involved in the crash, the two adults and two children inside sustained minor injuries.
Sylvain told the newspaper he doesn't want his brother to be remembered as a man who made a mistake behind the wheel, because he was not that type of driver he said. He wants people to know he was a good father with a big heart who just wanted to be there for his kids.
