A 37-year-old Montreal North man has been charged with first degree murder and attempted murder in connection with the stabbing Monday overnight of his pregnant wife.
Sofiane Ghazi is charged with murdering "Baby Ghazi" as written in the charges and trying to kill his wife Raja Ghazi, 33. He's also charged with uttering death threats and stealing a car.
Ghazi also faces four separate charges of armed robbery and breaching conditions.
Ghazi is suspected of holding up a dépanneur in Rosemont hours after the stabbing.
Last month, Ghazi was charged with assaulting his wife. He was ordered to keep the peace and not to contact or be in the presence of his wife without her consent.
This time, Ghazi was again ordered not to contact his wife.
The crown is objecting to Ghazi's release on bail. He remains detained until his next court appearance next month.
Ghazi appeared briefly in court via video conference from the Rivière-des-Prairies detention centre, looking grim and staring straight into their camera. He just kept nodding when answering questions until he was asked to verbally agree to come back to court.
