A 28-year-old man died in hospital following his arrest in Ile Bizard Monday morning.
Police were called to a home on Monk Place on the western tip of the island because of a conflict between the man and his parents.
"Officers saw a man that was in a crisis, he was under the influence of alcohol and drugs" said police spokesperson Jean Pierre Brabant. "There was a physical intervention with the individual that was made during the arrest."
No weapons were used, only physical force said Brabant.
Police said at one point during the arrest the man collapsed, falling to the ground in cardiac arrest.
Officers performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the man before he was rushed to hospital, where he later died.
Quebec's Independent Investigation Bureau has taken over the case.
