A 26-year-old man was formally charged Tuesday with two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the deaths of his grandparents in Ste. Catherine, south of Montreal.
Jeannot Jr. Cormier will remain in custody until he returns to court on Dec. 13.
Police say 67-year-old Jeannot Chapdelaine and 78-year-old Simonne Jourdain were murdered Sunday at their home on Forestier St. in Ste. Catherine.
Cormier was arrested a few hours later.
The young man was raised by the couple after his mother died young. There are reports that he was a longtime drug abuser who had been in trouble with the law before.
He also reportedly was violent with his grandparents in the past, and stole from them repeatedly.
