A 35-year-old man will be in court Monday to face charges of first-degree murder in connection with the deaths of his mother and grandmother.
At about 3:15 A.M. on Sunday police were called to an apartment on Souligny Ave. near Aubry St. in the Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve borough.
At the scene they found two women, 55 and 75-years-old, with stab wounds to their upper bodies and the 35-year-old man.
The suspect is known to police.
The 55-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The 75-year-old woman was taken to hospital where she later died.
Neighbours told CTV Montreal the 55-year-old woman was a nice lady going through some hard times.
"She had cancer-- she started chemo just about a month ago," one man said. "She was sick, she was depressed."
The killings are the 22nd and 23rd homicides on the island of Montreal in 2017, the same number for all of last year.
