A 24-year-old man was found unconscious inside an apartment building that caught fire Monday.
The first calls to 911 came in at about 8:20 P.M. after the flames were spotted on the first floor of an eight-storey building on Lincoln, near Chomedy in the Ville Marie borough.
When firefighters arrived at the scene the sprinkler system had kept the blaze from spreading. A search of the building found the victim, in cardiac arrest.
Emergency responders began CPR, the man was rushed to hospital and remains in critical condition.
The cause of the fire is not known, the investigation has been transferred to the Montreal police department arson squad.
