The vedette behind a Quebec-made line of cosmetics has been told to hire a chemist, or be accused of the illegal practice of chemistry.
There are more than 200 beauty and skincare products in the Maison Jacynthe line founded by actress Jacynthe René and her spouse Sylvain Garon.
René says she was gobsmacked to learn that the services of a professional chemist are required before artisanal cosmetics can be marketed by Quebec companies.
She tells La Presse she nearly fell out of her chair when she got a notice saying her company could be liable for fines up to $125-thousand.
René says she has since hired a member of the Quebec Order of Chemists to check her products for toxins and irritants.
