French President Emmanuel Macron says that after a visit from his American counterpart, he's confident Donald Trump will find a way "in the coming months" for the U.S. to potentially abandon a plan to withdraw from the Paris Climate Accord.
Macron was quoted in a French Sunday newspaper as saying "Donald Trump listened to me. He understood the meaning of my approach, including the link between global warming and terrorism."
Trump reportedly assured Macron he would "try to find a solution" that could see the United States return to landmark climate agreement over the next several months.
The U.S. President himself did concede during his state visit to France that "something could happen" when it comes to the Paris agreement.
Six weeks ago, Mr. Trump announced he would withdraw his country from the landmark 2015 climate-change agreement, effective November 4th, 2020 -- the day after the next Presidential election in the United States. If and when that withdrawal takes place, the U.S. would be one of just three countries on earth not to participate in the climate-change agreement. The other two are Nicaragua and Syria.
