If you're looking for a raise and have no problem working overtime you may want to look for a job with the Société de transport de Montréal (STM).
Numbers obtained by the Journal de Montreal show that over 1,500 workers with the STM earned more than $100,000 in 2017.
That's an increase of 13 per cent compared to the year before.
The reason for the jump is a lack of manpower, causing many bus drivers, metro operators, mechanics, electricians and plumbers to work 60-hour weeks, bringing their yearly salary into the six-figure range.
The President of the union representing STM maintenance employees told the newspaper the Transit Corporation would rather give current employees the extra hours instead of hiring new people, despite the number of workers dropping in recent years.
Gleason Frenette said if a new hire is brought on the STM would need to train them, provide them with the proper equipment, all on top of their regular salary plus benefits. Frenette said it's cheaper to just have current employees work more.
The STM said it is reviewing its hiring and overtime process.
