Flooding has forced Transport Quebec to close a major western link to the Island of Montreal.
Early Saturday morning, the Quebec government ministry announced the complete closure of the Galipeault Bridge between Ile-Perrot and Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue. That puts the bridge out of commisiosn until further notice.
This leaves the nearly eleven thousand residents of Île-Perrot and other nearby communities with a significant detour via highways 20 and 30, to get up to the Eastbound 40 and then across the l'Île-aux-Tourtes bridge.
However, the l'Île-aux-Tourtes bridge is also under threat from rising floodwater, particular the eastbound direction just as motorists reach the beginning of the span.
To offer motorists an alternative route and to simplify travel across the region Transport Quebec has temporarily removed the toll on Highway 30 until the reopening of the bridge.

The Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue Rugby Club has put together a group of volunteers who are helping with sandbagging efforts. They've sandbagged a section of homes right near where the water levels are the highest in the area. #CJAD800 pic.twitter.com/VV4GqpH3Il
