The thunderstorm on Wednesday afternoon that finally broke the stifling humidity of recent days lated barely a few minutes, but caused tens of thousands of people across southwestern Quebec to lose power, and led to several trees and power lines being knocked down.
Just after 3 p.m. Wednesday, the cold front and a vast storm system blew through, causing about 175,000 Hydro-Quebec customers to lose power from anywhere from a few minutes to several hours.
