The Coderre administration's point man on infrastructure is urging patience when it comes to Montreal's roadwork, while Projet Montreal insists the city can do better at easing its effect on Montrealers.
Lionel Perez and Projet Montreal candidate Christian Arseneault squared off about orange cone issues on the Natasha Hall show Wednesday afternoon.
Perez, the executive committee member responsible for the roadwork who's also running for re-election as a councillor for the Darlington district, said his administration made the decision four years ago to tackle decades of neglect of Montreal's infrastructure network head-on.
"There's a generation for which nothing was done, or very little was done," Perez said. "And what we're doing is the responsible thing, and we're doing it in a transparent way, and we're doing it in a way to maintain costs and ensure quality."
Arseneault, the Projet Montreal candidate for the Loyola district, insists the administration's poor planning has made Montreal a laughingstock.
"We're one of the worst-off cities in Canada as far as traffic is concerned," Arseneault says, "and while we completely understand the need to catch up on years of under-investment in infrastructure, we do think there was a poor job in coordinating and planning the work."
