Audio has been released of former Montreal Mayor Michael Applebaum's statement to the court during last week's sentencing.
The 54 year old Applebaum told the judge he would be a model inmate and would emerge a better person.
He was sentenced to 1 year behind bars on corruption-related charges and also received 2 years probation.
Applebaum did not testify at his trial.
The charges against Applebaum stemmed from 2 separate land deals dating back to his time as borough mayor of Cote des Neiges-NDG.
He was found guilty of pocketing about $37,000 in kickbacks from developers and engineering firms.
Applebaum served as interim mayor of Montreal between November 2012 and June 2013.
