Parti Québécois leadership candidate Jean-François Lisée thinks there isn't enough Quebec content for the province's subscribers to online services like iTunes, Netflix and Spotify.
Over the weekend, he hinted that if he becomes premier, he'd force those services to change that.
He told La Presse that those services are "marginalizing" Quebec culture by not making it visible on their welcome pages.
Lisée told the paper he plans on reinforcing Bill 101 to force those services to promote Quebec content more aggressively — be it in French or in English. He also hopes to apply a similar 65 per cent ratio for French-language music as the CRTC does for French-language radio stations.
Two years ago, the CRTC backed off on trying to regulate Netflix, and Lisée suggests Quebec could succeed where the feds failed.
PQ members begin selecting their new leader on Wednesday. The winner will be announced on Friday.
