The Port of Montreal has welcomed its first ship of the New Year.
The Chem Sirius is a chemical tanker flying the flag of Liberia and crossed into the Port's waters shortly after 3:00 Sunday morning.
Captain Daniel Ju is expected to be awarded with the Montreal Port Authority's gold-headed cane in a ceremony on Wednesday. The tradition is carried over from when ships were welcomed for the start of the spring season when the Port of Montreal was closed during the winter months. The cane began being awarded back in the 1870s.
The Chem Sirius left the port of Antwerp, Belgium on December 19th.
