It's never a good time to be laid off, especially just before the holidays.
Rogers Communications is laying off 60 employees with L'Actualité magazine, and the French versions of Chatelaine and Loulou.
20 employees, however, have been spared.
Among other things, Rogers has decided withdraw from publishing French-language magazines and is shrinking its English publications.
Rogers has been wanting to sell the French magazines and is in talks to sell L'Actualité, but indications are the new owner wants to re-work employee contracts.
A deal is expected by year's end.
